Inspection Time Cut with Precision Technology in Culpeper, VA
Underground Pipe Inspection
Problem
VDOT Culpeper District didn’t have the equipment or certified confined space inspectors needed to inspect and condition assess 4 underground stormwater management facilities that were due for inspection.
Solution
PILLAR used the Deep Trekker pipe crawler to inspect and take video of all 4 structures totaling 1,200 LF of pipe in a single day. Utilizing the pipe crawler eliminated the need for confined space entry with our certified personnel.
Approach
The four pipe structures were in four different locations in Albemarle County. Certified confined space entry personnel were engaged for the project, but PILLAR proposed an initial video inspection with the Deep Trekker pipe crawler to determine whether any abnormalities were present that would require confined space entry and visual inspection. None of the pipes required confined space entry, saving time and enabling the project to be completed in a single day. PILLAR provided VDOT with completed inspection forms, photographs and video gathered from the Deep Trekker.
