Avoid Hefty Fines with Stormwater Compliance Inspections
Stormwater Basin Inspection
Problem
VDOT Salem District faced possible fines from the Department of Environmental Quality for failure to maintain stormwater detention basins in 112 locations across 4 residencies.
Solution
VDOT Salem District hired PILLAR to perform site inspections and develop maintenance needs for each location. PILLAR identified over 500 deficiencies or maintenance needs that would bring the basins into compliance and avoid monetary fines.
Approach
PILLAR provided inspection services for the VDOT Salem District’s stormwater management basins located in the Bedford, Christiansburg, Martinsville and Salem residencies. Our professionals performed site inspection that included a visual inspection of each basin, a completed VDOT stormwater basin inspection form, photo documentation of the basin condition, and other pertinent notes/comments not specifically addressed on the form. For efficiency, we organized the inspections along an optimized travel route so that our professionals could complete the maximum number of inspections in a full work day.
We delivered an electronic copy of all completed forms, photos, notes and recommendations to the client within two business days of completing an inspection. In addition, we alerted the designated VDOT personnel via phone call with immediate safety concerns. Finally, we compiled hard copies of all documentation organized by residency and mailed it to the designated VDOT personnel upon completion of the inspections.
